Long 460 starter removal

the starter on my 460DT is kaput. does anyone have any tips on removal before i begin?
looks like i might need to remove the steering hydraulic pump to make enough room to back the starter out.

You are correct. The steering pump has to come off first.

thanks for the reply.
i was afraid of that.
without having to start a new thread "Long 460 steering pump removal" do you have any tips. looks like there's a cover held on by hex bolts which may give me enough room to get the starter out. or should i just take the whole pump off which looks like i'll need the allen wrenches.

Do NOT open the pump. Remove the whole thing. Some require an allen wrench, some require a 10mm socket.
