Wards/ Custom/ Lehr Differences

I bought a Lehr a few months ago and my father just bought a Wards. I know they are all Shelbyville tractors but I noticed a few differences between the two frames and rearends. Are there any other differences?

Welll...probably, but not certainly...
That's about as good an answer as you'll find anywhere, as the history of this design is about as complicated, contradictory and confused as any...
Unfortunately ET's GEM article has many errors as to history, but sounds very good on the mechanics of at least some versions...(have mislaid my old notes)
There's another longer, better article somewhere under CUSTOM that says you can't tell the Custom, Lehr, Wards (not the twin-row, bought somewhere else) etc apart, but others, like you, note differences (which could well've been production changes/options, like 8 cyl and Fluid Driv, made from time to time)...
If you want to spend a couple weeks (months??) reviewing history, start with the 30's CO-OPs, incl the FARMERS UNION CO-OPs, and then go to CUSTOM. I don't know of any one definitive, reliable history available online; I've not seen Cockshutts CO-OP history.

the wards should have a tag on the frame that says lowther as thats the man that bought the company after the custom and lehr..the diff between the lehrs and wards are the fluid drive before the trans along with final drives on the rearend...lehr didnt have these..the simpson jumbos are made the same as the lehrs and were made in california
