Long 445 hydraulics

I've got a couple of problems and was hoping maybe someone could point me in the right direction.

1st My 3 point lift won't hold position after it drops about 1/4 of the way then it goes all the way to the bottom. It will hold position when it's mostly up to all the way up, even when the tractor is not running.

2nd, only one side of my remote valve has any pressure. The side that is low will flow oil, just no pressure. I can hold the stream back with my finger.

Any ideas on what components have failed?

Start with the basics first. Make sure the hydraulic oil is clean and is filled to the proper level. Check the oil filter and clean it if necessary. It is in the hydraulic line below the starter. You can clean it with gas, diesel, or kerosene.

(quoted from post at 07:17:49 07/02/09) The remote valve can be setup for either single or double acting

Yeah, I knew that. The old tractor was plumbed that way when i bought it. It had an old up only gravity down FEL loader on it. I wanted to run a round baler and needed a full set of remotes so, I got the hoses, fittings, etc. and plumbed into the other side of the valve. I was sure surprised to find out the side that had never been used wouldn't work. I know it's supposed to because my neighbors 510 is plumbed the same way as mine and both his ports work.

I'm at a loss, except to just pull the spool out and see if it's got a piece of metal or something blocking the oil flow to that port.

I cant remember its been 15 years but that valve is able to do both find out if neighbor has manual it tells you how to do it I think you remove a plug and reverse a plug inside that valve can be used both ways

I've got all the manuals, all it says to do is remove the plug, attach fittings. It doesn't say anything about reversing another plug.

If you go to www.agcopartsbooks.com Search for 5040 tractor. The hydraulic remote valve is there with a schematic.

I think I figured it out. It looks like from the schematic that the tractor comes from the factory with the valve set to operate from one port. That port has a special looking fitting with a really long snout on it. I'm guessing but, that thing must push a ball check in the bottom of the port to allow oil to flow. The kit that import tractor parts sells has banjo type fittings with really long bolts that I'm assuming do the same thing.

(quoted from post at 13:35:30 07/02/09) I can't get diagram I have vista and svt is not supported maybe you can down load diagram and post it
See if this works. Edit--- only works in modern view

BTW I had the same problem on vista, just downloaded the 32 bit version of SVG and it worked.

You were right. I called Carl and he verified that yes I do need that special fitting to activate the port. He said good luck finding one, lol. So I had to order a used valve from Wengers for 80 bucks but it has the fitting I'm needing.

He was surprised at how I came across his name.

Thanks for your help.

Now you got any idea why my lift won't hold after it drops about 1/2 way it just falls to the bottom. If it's all the way up it will hold even without the engine running. I would think if the piston seal was bad it wouldn't hold at all. Maybe the piston cylinder has has a crack in it? I guess this winter I will take it apart for an inspection.
