(quoted from post at 19:28:51 07/23/23) Hi I am a new user and a Cockshutt 550 owner. Can anyone tell me what year my 550 serial number BP750 is?

I too have seen a serial number below 1000 on some red bellies. According to Bill Cockshutt, there were 1961 and 1962 tractors built for international export with different serial number than for North American use. Some of those export deals fell through and those tractors stayed in North America. For example, there are 570 models with 12xxx serial numbers that are not recorded and I have seen a 550 model with a 9xx serial number.
It may also be possible that the test tractors also had low serial numbers.

Will be an all Harvest Gold 1961. I own one 3 numbers less and saw one a few years ago at auction. I have had several discussions with knowledgeable Cockshutt
people about this topic. No one knows what really happened how they got this way.

Hi Barry,

Some Club Members believe that there was a large storage of COCKSHUTT 550 and 560 built tractor inventory still at the Brantford plant at the time of ownership change. The thinking is that the NEW OLIVER management may have serial numbered them from 1000 BACKWARDS to separately identify and keep track of this inventory..............I would be interested if ANYONE had discussed this with BILL COCKSHUTT before his death.I own three 550s' in this under 1000 serial number category......ALL COMPLETELY IN HARVEST GOLD PAINT. BP 765, BP 780, and BP 843D.........I have also seen '61 560 tractors under 1000.
