The hydraulics on our 2-105 are (like so many others) acting up. For the last two summers the pump has been running a little hotter than I would like (170+). Last year at the end of haying season it was having some grief running the baler: shuddering and jerking when opening the tailgate unless it was wound up to a high rpm, and it was be even worse with the brakes applied.
I pulled apart the compensator valve, found a tiny bit of crud around the spool and a couple of perished o-rings on the boss that the spool backs against. Cleaned it and replaced the o-rings and it now works much better. No more shuddering, even with the brakes applied and at low rpm.
It still seems a little slow, however, and is still running 160+ degrees after it's been working for a while. I have the compensator backed off to de-stroke around 1500 psi and the relief set at about 2100. I'd like to pull the case drain line off the pump and see how much it's bypassing. Does anyone know what a typical flow rate out of the case drain would be?
I'd also like to pull the relief valve boss (the piece that the ball presses into) and check/replace the o-ring around it. Is there any trick to pulling the boss out from down inside the valve? I obviously don't want to stick anything in the centre hole and risk marking up the seat that the ball seals against.
I should mention I'm doing this with the valve still mounted on the tractor. I know the proper thing to do would be to pull it off and go through all of it, but at this point I just want to baby it through the rest of haying season before really tearing into anything.
