super 88 diesel questions

Just bought a super 88 diesel the other day and have some questions.

I did some research and I think its a 1955. SN 17283-804

I am changing the fuel and oil filters. What are the numbers for each?

It has fuel in the oil. There was about 3.5 gallons of fuel/oil in the pan. I pressurized the transfer pump with low pressure compressed air and a fog came out where it goes into the block.

It runs super smooth, but it smokes and smells like raw fuel. Could it just be sucking the thin oil by the valve guides? The oil still feels quite oily, so I doubt there is any bearing damage.

It has been sitting for a long time and there wasn't a speck of metal in the filters.

Im replacing almost every gasket and seal and Id like to clean the energy cells too. I read in an archived thread that I need a 3/4 18 bolt to remove the inner part? Where would I find that?

Someone painted it dark green with a brush but there is an exlant amount of lighter green under it. It looks like the factory color. If its a 55, that means everything should be green except the grill?

I plan on repainting the engine, frame and grills with a rattle can.

Should it have meadow green? The Tisco rattle can meadow green looks too dark.

What color yellow should the grills be?

Anything else I should know about these tractors?

Thanks

Tisco Meadow Green is definitely too dark. I made the huge mistake of using it on my first 500. It still makes me sick that I spent all that time and money on it and it turned out that color. I bought two gallons of Meadow Green from the AGCO dealer a few weeks ago for $101 a gallon. It's the right color for sure. I feel de-ja-vu immediately when I look at it. I have the paint code for the yellow, but it's in the other computer. The grill is yellow, but the center strip is green. The wheels should be green too for a 1955.

The fuel is most likely getting in through the transfer pump. I got my rebuild kit through Korves. They're great folks.

Which oil filter setup do you have? The twin opposed?

The air filter is just an oil bath cleaner.

your fuel problem is with that PSB injection pump seals leaking into the crankcase. it needs new o rings and no parts are available for a complete rebuild.

It has the twin opposed oil filters

The single oil filter replaced the dual unit in 1957. It was availabe as a repair part. The 804 number indicates a slow speed rear end.

Here's a list from Sherry Schaefer.

I have a set of two Fleetguard LF794 in my cabinet I labeled as a set for a Super 88 diesel. I'm sure you can use that number to cross to other manufacturers.
