1550 runs too slow

The new to me 1550 doesnt run fast enough, doesnt
quite get to pto speed on the tach

This is wide open. Where do I adjust engine speed?

Are you sure the tach is accurate? If you have or know someone who has a hand held tach, like mine, you can measure the PTO shaft speed to compare.

Leave the throttle rod alone. Governor needs more spring tension for more speed. Spring gives speed, flyweights take it away.

I have 2 1550's. This one runs much slower than the other one with a new tach, I can tell just by listening when its running.

OP manual explains how to set the carb linkages but it'a a bit tricky to me.
The lever behind the spring should be adjusted to be parallel with the crankshaft centerline with the throttle at wide open. Then use the screw on the end of the spring (not in the pic) to set the high idle speed.

Wish my tach looked as nice as yours.
