Oliver 77 original exhaust

We recently found and purchased my wifes grandfathers Oliver
77. I know very little about Olivers as I have never been around
them. It has an old, ill fitting muffler of something obviously not
original now. Id like to replace it with whatever it had originally
but Im not sure what was factory on this tractor. Its a 51 77
gas. I know many of them had basically a straight pipe above the
hood with a stubby muffler underneath the hood. I also see many
with regular mufflers but Id just like to do this right as we plan to
make it original again. Thanks!

It will never be entirely as original . The best you can do is look at early pics and choose something you think appropriate.

It may depend on its current and future use - just use ear defenders if using a straight pipe, other than perhaps very gentle operation at lowish engine speeds.

I expect there are after-market under-hood silencers available which can be fitted or modified to fit. Under the hood will be out of sight (at least for most of the time) so not really an originality issue.

Korves has the original mufflers and pipes.

Yep, Korves Oliver. The one thing you might get in to, if somebody has cobbled another muffler or pipe on it, they probably cut the hole in the hood larger and that'll need to be patched.

The things we did to these tractors when we were using them with no intention of collecting them huh?

I never did understand the reason for the Micky-Mouse offset they used on those. gm

And the muffler under the hood plus side curtains created some real heat on a hot day.

My 1951 Oliver 77 needed a new muffler. I need to get back at working on it again.
