My 1850 has 540 pto and I need 540/1000. I bought a dual speed unit on a auction, but the entire clutch assembly is trashed. Will the clutch assembly be the same for both units, as in, can I unbolt the sub frame with the clutch assembly from the dual speed and bolt up the single speed clutch sub frame to make it work? I tried looking on the Agco site, but they made no mention of single speed or dual speed. I'm guessing that a single speed pto unit is not worth much, so if this works, I might as well mix and match to get a working unit. Thanks, Chris

I believe the clutch assembly is the same for either unit. When I rebuilt the PTO clutch in my 1850 I think the later ones use an extra friction disc and separator plate.

The short answer is yes, they will interchange as an assembly, but, if you have one later one and one earlier one, then you need to make sure that the hub and spider need to be matched together. I went though this just this past winter on my 1850. There are also some lathe work that you can do to make sure that the pto stops spinning when on brake. You can either take them to a machine shop, or I know Brad at Maibach Tractor in Creston Ohio will do them. I have a lathe and it took me about 20 minutes to do it all the first time.
