Electrical, points, condensor?

Runs great and then dies. Thought gas line was plugged. Started at Sediment Bowl Assembly. Found stuff gunk and cleaned. Problem though - the seal for the shut off valve failed. So I bought a new Sediment Bowl Assembly.
Tractor the same, runs great and then quits like it's starving for gas. Pulled a part carb and all looks good. Still, brothe wanted proof so I installed a elbow fitting and clear plastic hose to show fuel level in carb bowl. It does that - about as it should be at idle, lower at 1000 rpms and then barely slushing at the opening of the nipple. This probably right as the elbow is right under the main jet - so gas being sucked from plastic line.

Tried mowing, 50 yards to field and mowed 35 yards and tractor died. As soon as it started dying I looked the gas in the plastic line. It was trying to fill up and did instantly when tractor died.

Testing.
Started and idled at 800 rpms for 5 minutes.
Went to 1000 rpms and ran for 3 minutes.
Went to 1500 rpms and ran for 3 minutes.
Took it to 1800 rpms and ran just over 30 seconds.
Again at 1800 rpms and ran just over 30 seconds.

Engine stopped - showing fuel level in carb bowl.

When it dies, take the fuel lime off and see if you have fuel, probably crap in the tank blocking the opening. Take the fuel line off and open the shut off valve, I think it is you should fill a quart jar in about 3 minutes.

(quoted from post at 19:14:56 06/10/23) When it dies, take the fuel lime off and see if you have fuel, probably crap in the tank blocking the opening. Take the fuel line off and open the shut off valve, I think it is you should fill a quart jar in about 3 minutes.

Nothing in the tank. Drained gas tank. New Sediment Bowl Assembly, new gas line. That plastic tubing shows I have gas at all times. Red mark on tubing showing fuel level in carb bowl.

Extendable flashlight, can see opening to Sediment bowl, nothing there. In sediment glass bowl - can see through slot in down port.
Pull gas line and turn on fuel and it pours out. 2nd draining of gas tank - not very long to drain almost 4 gallon gas.

I would start by replacing the points and condenser. The condenser is more likely than the points but it wouldn't hurt to change both. If it still dies and you have a spare coil try that. I have had a coil that checked good cold and would open a winding when it heated up, as soon as it cooled off it would run again until it warmed up.

Thanks for leaning my way. Had a new 12 volt coil and installed it today. No automotive shops open on Sunday. Will order points and condenser from NAPA Monday. May not have them, but NAPA has super delivery service - order today and have tomorrow.

Took me 1 1/2 hour to install new coil. Have to remove side panel of hood to get at. Had work around and through the end loader and hoses. Nuts for mounting plate hadn't remove since forever. Long bolt that tightens mounting plate to coil had to be replaced (and made to fit) and then the mounting plate had to be bent some. Oh them tiny washers and nuts for the wiring and 74-year-old fingers.

That end loader is nice, but also a real pain. Everything old on the old tractor - replaced about $300 worth of hoses and need two more replaced, rebuilt one long cylinder and two more cylinders need rebuilt - little under $200 each.

Used tractor for bull dozing and mowing pasture and fields.

Don't know what made it happen. Replaced coil, installed new condiensor, and put on a new end on the hot wire to the coil. Messed up somewhere (no fire to points) and had to check wires from coil and condensor (really just loosened, checked and tightened nuts). Hit the key and had fire to the points. Stuck it together and let it run for half hour. Took off and mowed twice around 2 1/2-acre field. Purred almost like a kitten - overgrown kitten :D
knocking on wood....

Flat wore out. Again, having to work through and over end loader. Had to use a step ladder to get up over the end load. Then had to rest chest on the top of the end loader - bone to metal is not comfortable. Everything arm's length. Have to have head just so to see.

And the parts. New Sediment assemble made in India. Gas line from Sediment assemble to card line made in Mexico. Coil made in China. Condesor made in Mexico. New points (not installed) made in Mxico.
Happy days, hydraulic lines made in America. Gates about 40 miles from me. Brother-in-law retired from there a few years back.
