OC-3 Hercules IXB-3 Engine

Just wondering if any one has adjusted the oil pressure. Installed new rings and pistons along with new bearings. Engine runs fine and quiet but has low oil pressure when at operating temperature.
I should have checked the bearing to crankshaft clearance more closely. Engine still has a lighter oil in it, will change it shortly to straight 30. Can I adjust the oil pressure to get the desired pressure by putting more pressure on the poppet valve and spring located on the front, left-hand side of the engine? We use this machine about 30 hours per year.

How much oil is being allowed/diverted through the filter? That is often the reason for low oil pressure on these engines.

PRV could be leaking? What is?low??

What do you consider low? Checked with a good gauge?

Those little engines don t run a lot of oil pressure to start with.

I had one years ago that had the valve adjusted to coil bind the spring, crank was worn completely out and never made a noise. Good thing I checked before I started it with the new crank and bearings in it.

What are you calling low? 5 PSI is fine at hot idle. Mine idles at 20 PSI even if I have been running it all day. My bearings are tight
though. I checked closely when I had it apart many years ago. If your oil pressure seems okay when cold but gets dangerously low when hot, I
doubt it has anything to do with any adjustments. Sounds like excessive bearing clearance to me.

Not sure what is referred to as the PRV. Is that the ball and spring assembly in the oil filter base? I put a thinner oil in the engine because of the in-frame overhaul. Soon I will change oil and replenish with straight 30 weight. I am not a professional mechanic and should have sought better advice when rolling new bearings in. The old bearings were not worn bad, no brass showing on any of them. I have not checked the oil pressure gauge yet. It is on my list of things to try. This is a learning experience for me and also a hobby. Can I run heavier oil in it, such as 40W? I may need to bite the bullet and pull the engine and have the crankshaft checked for bearing clearance. That may have been the mistake I made. Please comment and thanks for the help.
