Was anyone on this at the Mecum sale? 74, 2255, open station mfd, fender fuel tanks, $46,800. 72, 2255, Cab, row crop, $14,400. 32k difference on these is quite surprising.
Anyone happen to be there to look at them?

I was not there but did see them online.
The 4x4 2255 was a complete resto. The
other was in its work clothes but
appeared to be in nice shape. A 2255 MFWD
With fender tanks is like the Holy grail
to alot of Oliver guys. I compare it to a
70 Chevelle SS454 for chevy guys.

True enough. Maybe what surprised me then was that there was at least two (2) people that were willing and able to pay the price.

I was there. It was absolutely Insane what that tractor brought for what it was. I seen the man that bought it taking pictures and he looked like he just hit the lottery, so I guess that is
really all that matters. I often wonder how many people buy MFWD tractors at auctions where they know nothing about the tractor and later find out the front wheel drive assembly is a worn out
POS., but if it's just a show tractor it really doesn't matter. From what I saw that 2255 was a long way from a show tractor by my standards, but very few people restore tractors like I do.

I have to agree with you Larry on the quality of restorations. I have chased around the country looking at some pretty high dollar , supposedly restored tractors, only to be disappointed. Fixing the leaks, new tires and painting them does not make them restored. The other problem now is, everyone that hears about this one selling for 46+k, feels that theirs is worth a lot more than it is.

We just had a 2255 4wd w/ a 3208 sell here locally. It was mislabeled as a 1955 but it looked to the untrained eye as a basketcase, missing bodywork, covers, perch, plenty of other stuff cobbled or robbed. Hammer price was around $3500.

The running 2255 2wd 3150 in the same auction sold for $5k.

Around here, within 150 radius they bring 8,500 to 13,000 pretty darn regular. I looked at a lot of them, and know where quite a few are still for sale, but not advertized.
The ones I know of are all 3208's, higher serial numbers, mainly cab tractors, 2wd, 3000-4200 hrs for around 13k average. 2255 is the one I wanted, but they are more costly to go through. There is more 22's around here than 19's, so I opted that route, but, i gotta say the cost to do this one, has gotten to be a little ridiculous too

Yes, 40 miles sw of the twin cities, mn. We had some pretty good Oliver dealerships around here back in the day.

That auction has a big following with a lot of people that can write big checks with no problem. It ain't your typical tractor auction for sure as far as the bidders having the
Big $$$$$ to spend.

Any body else wants to buy one. I would let mine go a bit cheaper. Mine is nice and has a factory ROPS canopy. Originally had fender tanks but I took them off to fit 30" rows. You can take this one to the field with out worry.
