1800 Power Steering

That seal the keeps it from leaking up the steering column is,but I don't think much else is.

The shaft seals are still available but that?s it. The old Saginaw units aren?t rebuildable much past that. If the steering drifts, which is pretty common if the rotor is getting worn, your only two options are to get used to it or do a Charlynn upgrade. The upgrade requires parts from a 1655 or a 2-70 and requires that you change the steering motor bracket, motor, Steering column, and lines. Did the upgrade on my 1600 and it?s not a bad job. Worst part is unhooking everything in the dash to pull the gauge cluster out but I think start to finish only took about 4 hours. The only down side is it doesn?t look original, but the charlynn units steer so much nicer than the Saginaws.

I can sell you a used one guaranteed for 350 motor went out of tractor this would be steering wheel and all

I was able to maintain the original function and appearance with a little cutting and welding........

When I did mine it got updated to the push button 55 series column. I got used parts from a 2-70 so it?s all Oliver parts. Didn?t want to buy the eBay special kit because it didn?t telescope and used that gaudy steering wheel. We have to do dads 1800 next and we are going to adapt the twist lock column to keep it looking original since the only thing on that tractor that isn?t is the new tires.

A series has the checkerboard decals and throttle on the column. B series has the spears on the side of the hood and throttle on the column. C series has the spears and the throttle is on the side of the dash. There?s more differences, but those are the easy first glance tell tales.

The early 1800's had Gemmer power ASSISTED steering like the 770/880, the replies below assume you have the Saginaw hydrostatic steering. If you have the Gemmer there is going to be much more to change.

Yes there were kits to convert the Gemmer units on the A & B series to the Saginaw units. but like Ian C said there is a lot more to change.

Hi,

If you have an 1800A or B with the original "Gemmer" built PS Head, I have many parts on stock here. The late 770 & 880 used this same unit.I supply these Gemmer PS Head parts for COCKSHUTT 560-570-570Super which also used this head, but the housing is made a little different, but the guts and operation are the same!

Well looked the 1800 over pretty close and its a non starter for me for the price. It needs the steering fixed or replaced, the injection pump is off, brakes are off the tractor, sheet metal is pretty good but with no way to check out anything else mechanical it'll have to get don pretty cheap for me to be a buyer. It is a 1800 B.
