1850 Lower Rad Hose

The lower rad hose blew on my 1850 gas. It looks like it is a short piece of straight stock hose. Is this hose hard to change? Does anything else have to come off to slip the hose on the rad and the waterneck? What size is the hose? It looks like it is 2 1/4" or 2 1/2".

I've never done it, but I did stand in the door between the parts room, and the shop and listen while one of the tech's did that job on a 1750 gas. He was using a vast quantity of "sentence enhancers". When you do yours just make sure there are no little ears about if you (the same as I) also use them.

Thanks. I am trying to decide if I should change it now or pull the rad later and do it then. I want to pull the governor also and pulling the rad for both may be easier.
Is there a water neck behind the alt. bracket that can be pull to help or is that part of the rad.?

Go to www.agcopartsbooks.com and look at the parts breakdown. If I remember he was having problems getting the hoses loose from the metal without damaging himself or other components.

Has anybody had first hand experience changing the lower hose? It looks like it has to be folded to fit inbeteeen the radiator neck and the water pump neck.

Not specifically on an 1850 gas, but changed them on a few other Waukesha 4-digit Olivers. It is basically 2 straight pieces of hose. Go to most parts stores and buy a foot, probably use about 8" total. There isn't a lot of room, and you have to make sure the heater elbow doesn't rub on the belts. It's not too bad once you jump into it. I don't really have any tips or tricks to offer except put it on the water pump side first and wait to tighten all the clamps until it's set in place.

I did, upper and lower. The rad failed and needed removed...Not that difficult. Reinstall the hose as you reinstall the rad.
