White 2-105 AC

The AC compressor locked up on the 2-105 yesterday. I guess I have the "York" style? It's the square one. I did a search for a new one. The price isn't terrible, but Jensales has a conversion kit to change it to the Sanden style like my Series 3 2-135 has. The price is considerably more though. I don't know what to think of the situation. I never dealt with Jensales. I hate to go with just a gut feeling, but all I've ever heard about their manuals that they sell is negative. I don't know what to think about other things they sell,no experience here.

We're talking $412 for the conversion, but that includes the compressor, fittings and new bracket vs less than $200 for a direct bolt up original style. Any suggestions? The tractor only has 5015 hours and I plan to have it the rest of my farming life so I want to go with the best. I don't want to throw money down the drain either if it's just a wash in the end.

I've got a 1370 Case with the York. Replaced the compressor seal, lasted less than a year. Bought a reman compressor, lasted a year and a half. I open the windows now.

If you choose York I'd make sure it is a new unit. I think the Yorks have a history of crank seal failures.

Call the dealer you work with and see if they are a dealer for AP Air www.apairinc.com . They specialize in A/C stuff and are probably the supplier for Jensales kits. They have conversion kits for the 2-105. If your guy isn't a dealer for them call my old work R.F. Engine in Morrice MI 800-828-6943. Now that I'm not there they don't do as much non-engine stuff. If they don't help you email me and I'll see what I can do. campbell dot ianc at yahoo dot com

I agree with Aian C. If you don't have any luck or you want a second opinion and price call me back. The guy I help does a lot of conversions and they are all AP air. He is right around the corner from Yoder & Frey. I have some 500 questions too. J.

Here's the one from Jensales. You all think go with the conversion and be done with it though? If I have to buy the 134A twice it'll eat up some difference should the York be junk out of the box.

The email's hooked up John,or you can call me. I should be in and settled down by 8 o'clock. 989 291 5093

Randy I will second trying AP air. I have used their stuff for several years and it is good and usually fairly economical.

I just called AP Air. They needed to refer me to a dealer and they said Jensales is one of their dealers,so if I order it from them,it'll be an AP Air kit.

Ian,do you have any experience doing one of those conversions? It says something about an additional 2 1/2 inches of clearance for the line adapter or some such thing. I don't know how it's gonna sit in there,if it will clear the injector pump or not.

if the one that's bad is original...what is that 40 years...why convert if you get another 40 out of the next.

The more I look in to it,it's cheaper to go with the Sanden. The $200 ones are on eBay and I'd have to question their origin. From a reliable source, they're $300 with no clutch. My clutch is burned black from when it slipped after the compressor locked up. A new clutch and pulley is $133. AC Air told me $408,Jensales price is 412,for the complete kit to switch it.

If you have a tag on the compressor with a number on it, ebay it and research part #s. I'm sure it is used on many other applications also.. Compressor seal failure is most likely due to lack of oil in the system or low refrigerant. If the compressor locked up, you will have aluminum debris in the system. All components and lines will need cleaned out with a/c flush or you will have a repeat failure. The drier and expansion valve need to be replaced. I wouldn't say one compressor is any better than the other. I wouldn't do the conversion if it was mine.

I can turn it almost a full turn in both directions then it sounds like it hits something. Like a broken rod in a piston engine. No real resistance when I turn it either way. I looked for a tag and didn't find one. I know where there's a 2-105 in a small parts yard. I went and looked at that yesterday and somebody cobbled a Motorola on that one. And when I say cobbled,I mean cobbled.

There are a bunch of different catalogs from a/c manufacturers that can identify that compressor, right down to the electrical connector. There are a lot of older freightliners, and Kenworth trucks with that style compressor on. One off a KW or freigtliner would most likely work. If you lived close by I'd give u one. I put one on my 2-180 just for an idler for the alternator. The 2-180 manual lists the compressor as a ER210L York compressor which most likely is the same. You can find them on ebay for $225 with clutch. Anyone should be able to cross that number to their brand and get one. I would remove the line at the expansion valve and look for any aluminum. If you're lucky, maybe a rod broke in the compressor and you have no debris in the system. That wouldn't be my luck and the way yours most times! LOL
