500 Orchard is finished

We put the decals on the 500 yesterday. I ran it out in the yard and took a couple of pictures today. Here it is the way I found it and the way it looks now. I sure don't like having these things look like I did it,but I'm not going to have another one torn down for two and a half years while the parts are at somebody else's place not being taken care of anyway, like I did the 500 gas.

Looks great Randy! Now what is your next project? I have seen a few narrow HG and OC3 crawlers lately if interested I'll try to find info for you.

I've gotta get the wife's Super 55 done. That was gonna be my next project before this came along. The steering box needs a proper rebuilding and I smoked the PTO clutch out of it running the brush hog. I rebuilt the motor, put a new clutch and pressure plate in and painted the wheels and grill. The rest needs to be painted when the last of the mechanical work is done.

I've got a first-year 55 that I plan to restore. Who sold you your engine overhaul parts?

I don't even remember anymore if I got them from the local auto parts store or Ag Parts First or just where they came from.

I bought the green and the white both at the AGCO dealer. It's a whole different color than the TSC paint I used on the gasser. Makes the TSC paint look more like olive green than Oliver green. The AGCO paint is a whole lot darker.

Ok I seen some paint at our AGCO dealer. They had it in spray cans and quarts. I was thinking about trying some of the spray for small parts and stuff like that. I don't know how it would match the other paint we are using. Using Imron 3.5HG custom mixed for green and the white. Hoping to try and get some paint on the 1800 this weekend...

Sure looks good. I'm usually not all that impressed with my paint jobs either but figure I plan on using them even after they are painted so its not so bad. Had a guy paint a box for a 70 chevy pickup and waited forever for him to paint it so I started to hound him. First time he painted it didn't match (not even close) made him paint it again, still didn't match but was pretty close and I was sick of waiting. Still irritates me to this day but not its got nicks and scratches from being driven so its not as bad I guess. I do like the added touch of stainless/chrome fasteners on the fenders.

Where's the stamped serial number at? Would like to double check mine. Its 101I69 (yup it has the letter I in the serial). I'm thinking that the I is spose to be a 1.

The more I think about it,I think I got them from Korves. I know I got the exhaust pipe from them, and I think I ordered everything from them, engine parts, gauges, the works.

Pardon my mistake then. I'll have this post deleted and repost it on the David Brown forum.

You need to come get the 600 I have here, doubt I'll ever get around to it and would like to see it fixed up.Fellow at the auction told me it sat in a sawmill for years and ran a planer with the PTO,makes sense since the tires are gone but very good rims and the sheet metal hasn't been hammered like most I see around my area.Head is off the motor and gone, same engine
as the early DB 990 tractors.

I sure wish you were closer. If we could find economical shipping from where you are,I'd still take it. I guess it's not all that far in the whole scheme of things since Nelson LeCount hauled one all the way back to Indiana from California and Peter Williams had one shipped back to the UK from Georgia, but it seems like a long ways to me.

You could make a vacation of the trip.I live about 100 miles South of DC and 15 miles from Monticello lots to see in this area.Might be able to get it to Green auction in Ohio don't know
how far that is from you, friend of mine also an Oliver guy goes out there sometimes.

Looks good Randy. At a tractor show, I sure like looking at tractors that have been repaired and painted by the owner, than looking at the body shop jobs. I also like the original paint ones better than body shop, that you don't dare use. But that's just me.

This is an great point. I'm kind of OCD about the prep work and paint. I'm no body man, but I keep working on panels until they are as perfect as I can get them. This, despite telling myself...

1. Get it done. Craps sake, I've been working on the thing off and on for the past 2 years!

2. It's still gonna be a working tractor and will get scratched and dented and the nicer I make it the more ------ I'll be when that happens.
