Removing the Knuckle Steering arm

I removed the nut on the spindle.. I tried pounding on it with the nut on & block of wood to no avail. no place to hook a puller on.. does anybody have any tricks or tips to remove them.

Without knowing what machine this may not be an appropriate answer, but I have used it similar situations. BFH and 8lb maul, hold maul tight against one side of the arm and strike the opposite side with the BFH, sometimes it will spring it enough to have it come loose.

A variation of this is to have two people striking on opposite sides in unison. Takes a little practice to get the rythem, but the taper will pop loose.
