oliver 550 remote hydraulics

I posted this to Larry Harsin also, just to expand my options. I have a 1963 550 Oliver that I am adding remote hydraulics to use a light duty vintage Freeman loader. I have a valve that has an adjustable relief valve(set to 1500 or 1700?) May I use the 1/4 pipe port(just right of the filter housing) for pressure and a 3/8 pipe port, just behind and above the 1/4 port for return oil. After testing a bit, I think this will work? I have tapped the ports under the little triangular block so I may plug them if the above mentioned efforts will work. I am doing this routing to keep the area as clean as possible. As it is, it is a bit difficult to mount the little tractor for this old guy. So to you Oliver gurus what can I do? Thanks for the help!

Do you smoke? If you do it will help pass the time while the boom lifts using the internal hydraulic pump. I'd also change the thrust bearings on the spindles if you haven't already, even with power steering it will help the steering.

Thanks for the input. I don't smoke. Not in a hurry. I had a jumbo-tron Freeman loader on it and removed the massive structure. It had a front pump. Not interested in going back to that. I found a lighter duty Freeman off a 55 that I am installing. I can choose to go back to front pump if I care to. And yes, my 550 has P/S. I will wait for tech help yet. I do have two former Oliver dealers here that I can walk in and talk too also. Just a bit of a drive. I start with internet help.

Not sure about the 1/4 port next to the filter housing. But on the right front of the hydraulic case the top hole is the RETURN PORT (#1 in photo) and the bottom hole is the PRESSURE PORT (#2 in photo). I have some type of aftermarket Cesna valve. I use an Allied 300 loader (yes, it has Oliver decals on it). Contrary to what most others say, my loader cylinders operate plenty fast. The spool valve to control the loader also needs to be an open center valve so fluid can pass thru. Good Luck!

Thanks for the response. I don't have the side manifold/valve that you have. I like the way you have it plumbed. If you look at the second picture you sent, you can see the ports I am interested in. The back top port(3/8 pipe), just right of the filter base is return. The port(1/4 pipe), just right of the filter head and further to the front of tractor, pumps hydraulic fluid when I turn the engine over. I don't see an issue with this, but wanted some tech help from a more experienced Oliver 550 dude. I do have a small (capable of 11gpm) open center valve. It also has an adjustable relief. Again I really appreciate your help. I have looked at your pictures in a previous post think you have quite a machine!! I have done a lot work on mine to get it where it should be mechanically. It was not taken care of by previous owner.
