1800B Diesel

I have an 1800B diesel. Last week, I started it for the first time since last November. It cranked abit before it started. I drove it about 15 minutes and shut it off. A bit later, I got on it and it cranked and cranked before it started. I drove it another 15 minutes and shut it off. This time it would not start. Cranked and cranked...no smoke. Pulled it out of the way. It set another 3 hours. I got on it and it started.
Thoughts as to what is going on here?

If fuel flow to the injection pump is OK, injection pump may need repair. Confirm by taking loose the two screw timing cover on the pump side when the engine is running and begins to slow down/die. If the engine responds better with the fuel leak at the cover, pump needs serviced. Weight retainer ring is breaking apart and restricting the return line side, causing pump to shut down. Just repaired a JD 4010 pump for the same trouble.
