1850 diesel

Hi guys. I just went and looked at a 1850 diesel. What should the hydraulic pressure be on that tractor? I tested it at 1800 psi with a gauge. Also there seemed to be an oil leak on the right side of the engine around the head gasket area. What could be leaking there. Tractor runs nice and has a Perkins and a three speed. Thanks a bunch

Hydraulic system pressure sounds ok, I thought maybe it should be closer to 2000.
As for the engine oil leak on the right side I'd guess either the rocker cover gasket or there are two covers for the cam followers that might be leaking. Also the threaded holes for the intake manifold are through holes and I use dab of sealant on those bolts.

Where and how did you check the pressure? I would agree with kevinecwi about the oil leak. Side cover or rocker cover. Depends how much they want for tractor but even with a few issues it maybe worth it for the right price.

Ok thanks guys. The leak was coming from above those covers. I have a pressure gauge that I made with pioneer couplers. I put it in line with a hydraulic cylinder

Probably the best way to find the source of the leak would be to decrease the engine then run it to see where the oil is comming from. Maybe worth while to pull off the tin work, to clean and inspect for leak. The hyd psi seems ok to me but I do not know the spec. A flow meter is the best way to check pump pressure, I believe. Hopefully Mr.Schwiebert or someone else with more knowledge of hydraulic system posts a comment. A service manual is always a good investment.
