Options to repower an Oliver 1450

There's an Oliver 1450 available locally here for $600 that is in beautiful shape, except that it needs 'sleeves replaced or rebuilt'. From the photos, it looks like a very nice, well maintained, almost sow-quality machine.

Now, I've heard enough about the motors and parts availability on these 1450s to be concerned about my ability to get it in good working order. However, are there any options to repower it somehow with a Perkins diesel or something else? Has anyone done something like this?

Think I would investigate the cost and availability of
the parts to rebuild what you have. If I remember
correctly, there is no frame in these Fiat built
tractors, and it is the engine block that holds the
front end to the back. Not saying it cannot be done,
but would it be practical? Another Fiat engine may
match up, but I would still look to rebuild.

It seems to me that somebody asked that in the past and there was a reply about using some IH combine engine or something that bolted up without a whole lot of tooling. I don't remember right off hand though. I don't know that you'll find a direct bolt up like using a 354 Perkins out of a combine in an 1850.

The only motor I can imagine that would be worth doing would be an engine from a 1465 but if you found a 1465 with a good engine you'd have about the same tractor as you're building with
the one you have now and the 1465 motor.I'd buy the 1450 and look for a 1465 as they make good parts tractors for the 1465.That said neither one is easy to find parts for these days so
unless you just like Fiat built Olivers like I do probably not worth the money and trouble.I have a 1465 that I use some and a 4WD 1450 that's the only 1450 4WD I know of anywhere on this side of the Atlantic would love to hear about anyone else that owns one.As far as any other brand motor it'd be a bear to install in a 1450 and have useful tractor in my opinion.
If you just want a tractor to use buy a 1200 David Brown about the same size tractor and you can find parts,I'm probably getting a DB 1412 for $1400 so that'd be much better than dealing with the 1450 repower.

Thanks for all the feedback. Apparently, it doesn't run at all, so it's a non-starter given the reputation of the engines on these.

O. K. Do you know why it does not run? We sold 3 of them. Two of them are still around. The other one was sold when the owner passed away. The other 2 probably had less than 500-600 dollars in repairs since they were new. How many hours do you think you will use it in a year. How many hours are on the tractor? Why does the owner think it needs sleeves and pistons? My e-mail is open. J.

HI Brian

Left field idea. Fiat owns New Holland so once you know what parts you need talk to New Holland about availability and price?

Regards

Matt

At this point, I don't have more information than what I've shared here. However, I had read about these the head bolts on these motors are very subject to snapping off when you try to remove the head, and they are very difficult to drill out without ruining the engine if they do.

I'd love to hear some first hand experience from people who have serviced these, as that head would have to come off to do sleeves and pistons (and who knows what else if it currently doesn't run).

I'm pretty sure Fiat/NH doesn't have any parts for the 1450 but your best bet would be some European companies that carry Fiat Tractor parts the 1450 is about the same tractor as
the 615 Fiat. There was a company in Greece that had a good supply of parts for old Fiat tractors back when I had the UTB 800.If you do decide to go ahead with the 1450 I have two of those tractors for parts and one looks like it was rebuilt but the engine was stuck when I got it and don't know any history.

Check out Import Tractor Parts website. Could be a potential resource. Have experience with a 1370 White which was also a FIAT and it was a
good tractor.
