Wheatland 1850 vs regular 1850

Was there any differences between a Wheatland version of the 1850 and the regular version other than the placement of where the front wheels were located? What was the reason for placing those wheels more under the frame rather than out in front?

The wheatland would have had the heavy duty non adjustable wide front axle with live spindles and wheatland fenders with front mud gaurds to enclose the operators station. They also would most commonly be found with a wide swinging drawbar and no three point. The front axles were set back to improve the turning radius and for added strength and they used the live spindles because they were stronger and were easier to steer.

Oliverkid is spot-on with his discription. There was also tractors made with set back front axles. Bascially they are a row crop front axle that is set back under the front end for better turning and etc. I have seen people confuse these with wheatland models, which they are not. Just thought it maybe worth mentioning.

Then the tractor I am looking at is a row crop because it has the three point. I thought it was a wheatland because it had the wheels set back, but from what you said, they did make row crops like this. Having the wheels set back on a row crop would make it sell for more or for less at an auction, if everything else was in good condition and it was a diesel?

Do you have a picture of the tractor? That would help figure out what it is exactly. I am not sure if you could get a wheatland with a three point or not. Like he said most all had the wide swinging draw bar and no three point. Maybe Oliverkid can post a picture of his 1955 which has a set back front axle.

This is a set back row crop front axle. It has a tighter turning radius and is built a little stouter that the regular wide fronts, however it is still fully adjustable for row spacing.

The 1650 Wheatland I have has 3pt,and has 34 inch rear tires, almost all the RC ones I've seen have 38" rear tires. Also has 18 inch front wheels and the front hub set up is nothing like the RC tractors. Both my 1550 RC tractors have the set back axle which sets back a lot farther than the Wheatland axle does on the 1650.I really like the set back axle.
