Field Boss 2-105

Every spring a childhood friend of mine affords me the joy of going back up home and tilling ground ahead of him on the planter. He stayed at home and farmed while I pursued other career options. His has been an Oliver family as far back as Hart Parr. We had a 88 that we pulled and I pulled 77s for years but we farmed with IHC/Farmalls. Anyway, after blowing an under-cab hyd hose on his 2-155 early in the week I ended up on an open station 2-105 pulling a 1900 Krause disk. What a wonderful "little" tractor the 2-105 is. I compared it to the 806 Farmall, which I'd run some in my youth but the 2-105 handles like a smaller tractor and doesn't take 1/2 hour to shift gears. There will be some that think this is a silly post but I bet a few of you "get" what a joy going back to the country life and getting some dirt blown in your face really is, if only occasionally. I think my friend kind of gets it, but not entirely, because he and his wife never left the farm. I suppose that a lot of life is about hard choices and we all have to do what we have to do, but if you had to leave the farm to work when you grew up, I highly recommend looking up an old friend that stayed at home in the country and see if they might honor you with the chance to get a few dirt boogers once again. gm

I didn't grow up on a farm but worked on them since I was about 11. I had to go get a real job but I still go back and run tractors and combines when I can. I off work now and have been thinking about getting on the combine crew this summer. I can't really afford to though.

A friend did that the day after he graduated high school. His dad loaded him up and took him to some place in western OK and he went all the way to Canada with them. It was an eye opening experience for him and has been a big influence on his life. gm

I've been a frustrated farmer all my life. My folks sold the cows when I was 5, but I worked on farms from the time I was 12 until 22. Some of my favorite jobs were raking hay and side dressing corn on an Oliver 77, and when I got really lucky I got to plow with a 1550 (the "big" tractor) and a three bottom semi-mount plow.
I guess that's why I do my little hay operation. I only put up 7-8,ooo bales a year, but I enjoy it
