I found this ol thing in a shed not too far from my farm- gentleman went to rest home and family selling some of his items. Looks like I'll have another project this fall. Anyone seen a Mag like this one? New to me...the serial number reflects it is a 1937. Thanks.

The 28-44 slowly metamorphosed into the 90 over about 2 years from 1935, I think.

Mag and governor, 3 to 4 forward speeds (may have been earlier), carb change (and likely the manifold), air cleaner, radiator top tank from ?Hart Parr? to ?Oliver Hart Parr? to ?Oliver?, radiator cap ...were the main changes, I think, but there may have been others - like HART PARR embossed on the engine block, decals, throttle linkage, drawbar type...

It looks like a very straight example.

As J. said a serial number would confirm whether it is a 90 or a 28-44. The mag is a U4 American Bosch base mount. They were only used on the 28-44 not the 90. The 90 used a flange mount mag. It also has the old style fixed speed governor with the aftermarket variable speed attachment also only 28-44. I see other things that also point to it being a 28-44 and not a 90.

Like I said - the "Hood" says "90" , as in the picture. The ID tag says "28-44"...so Im still confused. If your saying it can be "both", then ok... and thanks for the help on here. Either way - should be a "good collector". SN-508553.

Larry Gay's book shows that serial number belonging to the Model 28-44 & High Compression Special, 1937, serial numbers for that year were 508 016 thru 508 917. It also shows the Model 90 starting production in 1937, S.N. 508 918 thru 508 934. Makes you wonder if there was some overlap in production. Or the hood might have been put on later to replace a damaged one.

Hey thanks...... just looking for answers...I guess I should leave the "90" on the tank? Im sure it is "28-44"....thats the Model- right? Not sure where the 90 came from. Thanks again.

I have an 18-28 that I bought as an 80. Had 80 decals on it but serial number says 18-28. Also has the variable speed governor kit. Didnt know any better at the time. Now I'm glad its not an 80.

ok- so tell me the difference between "80" and "90" and the ones we do have.....are these more desirable? Thanks.

It is a 28-44 buy the serial number and the features I see. Three speed trans? The 90 is a four speed. The 90 on the tank was probably the decals someone put on it after painting it at one time. The hood does not have the grooves and holes to hang the side shields either. I personally have kept the older series of Oliver HP tractors; 18-27, 18-28, and 28-44. I really don't know if one is more desirable or not. I just think it depends on who is looking

Ok-thanks...so this "series" was before the "80" and "90"...? Did they put decals on the tractors for the ones that you have? Thanks.

Yes they had decals. The 28-44 was built from 1930-1937 and the early models of them were called A models. Like mentioned before the 28-44 tractors evolved into the 90 series and 99 series (high compression) tractors. The 18-27 Row Crop and 18-28 Standard evolved into the 80 model.Yours is definitely a nice complete looking one to start with. A very good find.
