2-155 Hyd/Lube smoke

Yesterday while I was disking for a friend of mine the Hyd temp gauge began to flicker. I was used to this from a few years of running this tractor working ground and didn't think much about it. The practice was to pull up in some shade, turn off the tractor, grab a nap, check the dip-stick and add accordingly, and continue to work. This time the red Hyd Temp light came on solid sooner than usual accompanied by the Trans Lube light and smoke billowing out from under the cab at the right front corner. I called him and he told me to go ahead and raise the disk and limp back to the trucks and leave it there so he could check it later. I did so but boy howdy a lot of smoke boiled out from under there and when I shut it down the steps on the left were soaked as well. It also started making a sort of growl like a relief valve popping. I might have over filled the reservoir a quart or 2 but I didn't think too much about that. Does anyone have an experience like this and explanation of what it was? Thanks in advance, gm

Not sure about the 135/155 but on other machines there is a valve that bypasses the hydraulic oil from going through the cooler if it is cold. Hopefully somebody with a White hydraulic service manual will chime in.
