Oliver Super 55 Oil Filter Problem

I'm having issues with getting my new oil filter to not leak. The filter that was on it when I bought it was a Dana filter and the new one I ordered is a Fram. They both look identical, but I can't get it to seal.

The gasket seems too thick and doesn't get much thread engagement. It has those really big stamped sheet metal threads.

I have always just hand tightened my oil filters and did the same with the first one I had. It leaked so I tried tightening it with a filter wrench and stripped it. I've been hesitant to over-tighten the second one, and can't get it to stop leaking.

Any recommendations? Is my filter housing worn out and I need a new one?

Thanks

Jonny

I'm not going to say anything about fram but is it possible that there are two gaskets on your fram?
I've seen that happen and they won't seal, they leak between the gaskets.

I'm sure it is only one gasket. It is the aluminum base. I was wondering if it just gets worn out over time. I'll see if I can find a cast iron one.

Thanks

Those aluminum ones do wear out! I have seen oil filters fly off of them when the tractor was running! Kent will have a cast iron one.

I've had trouble with all Wix and store brand filters doing that. I have a thin gasket here that I have to keep reusing. Last one I put on was a genuine AGCO and it tightened up with the gasket that came with it.
