hello i have a nice oliver 1650 and the front steering (box?) seems to leak quite a bit. i'm not sure if it's called a rack and pinion or box or what. is that difficult to remove? any easy tips to trouble shoot or fix would be appreciated
thanks

Most likely the quad ring. You can get an entire kit for about $25 from Ag Parts First or probably Korves Oliver. You'll have to pull the radiator. Take the lines off,one bolt that holds a brace arm and take the cap off the top of the unit. There's a plug in the center of the gear. Pry that out with a couple of screwdrivers. There's a big bolt in there under that, takes about an inch and an eighth wrench. Loosen that, keep turning and it'll come tight again. Keep turning. It acts as a puller to pull the gear off the shaft. Once that pops off, lift it out and you can then lift the whole cylinder out of the tub.

When you have it out, stand it on end and tap on the end cap a little. There's a wire ring that comes out once you tap that cap in. Stand it on the other end between two wood blocks and drop it lightly. The cap should pop out and the piston with it. Once it's all apart, you'll figure out pretty quick where all the O-rings and quad ring goes.

Ya,I've never HAD to put a complete kit in,but for $25 and the bother of taking the radiator out again,it's well worth only doing it once.
