500 exhaust

I took the 500 to the muffler shop today and had the down swept exhaust pipe bent for it. It sure sounds sweet. Has that Euro Diesel ping to it now that I can hear more than just exhaust noise.

Hoping to have it done for our local show the third weekend in July. I'm a lot farther along on it than I was on the 500 gas a year ago and we got that one done in time for the show. I rebuilt the fuel pump Sunday, but I'm waiting for my son to bring me a bolt for a banjo fitting before I can hook it up and take the electric pump off.

Looks nice and clean. The underslung exhaust on my 500 has a handful of bends in it and just looks odd. Got mine out the other day to put with few of my others for a picture, it still surprises me how fast that little devil is in 1st high.

Nice! You gonna get that pipe chromed?? ;)

Did it already have the U bend on the manifold? Is that a casting or was it a welded up assembly?

Mine is the vertical exhaust like your gasser. The casting that bolts to the manifold that the muffler is clamped to got broken when I tipped the tractor on its side in a ditch. I had to machine one from a steel block many years ago. Now it is all rusty and pretty much looks like the cast manifold.

I don't care for chrome where it didn't exist originally. Peter Williams had that manifold curved piece. It's cast. Oliver Jim had the NOS hangers for it.

There's a set screw in there. I thought it was kind of a messed up thing,I even told the guy at the muffler shop that if he had to grind off the nut that it screws in to and put a pipe on the outside,go ahead. He said he thought he could swedge it tight enough so it wouldn't leak. Seems to be good and tight. No sign of a leak.
