Oliver 1750 rear tires locked up

Driving Oliver 1750 Diesel in high gear for approx 30 minutes when both back wheels lock up at the same time. Engine runs and tires roll only with clutch in neutral. in any gear tractor will die if clutch is released. Pulled connecting chain from over and under to the main transmission. Over and Under seems to work fine and it appears, without splitting tractor that there is a bad bearing in the front of the main transmission. I am just wondering if anyone knows how far my damage may have got? I heard nothing snap or break when wheels locked up.

i tried every gear, every combination i could think of and the tractor dies if you let out the clutch. The gear shift seems to work in every gear high and low but will only let the tires move if in neutral with the clutch depressed.

Probably seized the input shaft bearing. Were you feeling a rumbling in your feet before this happened with the clutch out? If the bearing has seized you have to cut the shaft to get the pieces out.

the bearing and maybe the collar will have welded themselves to the shaft. You cut it apart and take it out in pieces, then replace the shaft, etc. You will need to remove the hood, tank, support, dash, shift cover, and maybe the hydraulic unit. Call Maibach Tractor in Creston OH 800-808-9934 and talk with them as they will have the used parts you need. Fairly common problem, usually caused by failure of the trans lube pump or its drive chain. The rumble was the bearing going bad, and it stops when you push in the clutch because the input shaft stops turning.

I have a late 1850 and I looked at the AGCO parts book, I do not see any drive chain for the pump. What am I missing?

When I got the 1850 from my Dad's estate, the front transmission bears were out and the debris went into the ring and pinion, destroyed both. Everything comes put the the cases to change them.

Something similar happened to me. My 1655 locked up like you said. Thought it was transmission. It was hydraulic pump drive gear bearing seized and stalled engine out. Installed trans pump pressure gauge after that. Procedure is in IT manual.Good peace of mind.

I didn't use the parts book, just my rememberer, which is subject to change without notice. I have just remembered another method of lube failure was the tubes out the front of the trans. Used to get one into the shop almost once a year. Job always seemed to get stuck to the one tech (gone now or I'd pick his brain), put him in a bad mood for the whole time.
