I don't know about the physical size of it fitting it into the frame, but you'll have to watch which arrangement you buy to fit. In addition to what is on the chart I've posted there is also governor location. Detroit was the Burger King of engines, they'd make it your way. Stupid picture came out too small, I'll resize and re-post if anybody is interested.

Think I have a book with that info too. If I recall there was a Super 99 GM about 3 miles away with a 4-71 in place of the 3-71, not sure where it ended up. If a 4-71 would fit in place of the 4-53, it would be a quick way for more power/torque.

I would imagine the physical size of the 4-71 would be an issue, but I would be all for it being tried. I would think the best transplant would be a 6V-53, as I would think it would not be a lot longer than the 4-53. I will admit my exposure to these engines is limited, though.

6V-53 would probably be easier than a 4-71.

I remember seeing a 4-71 with an added turbocharger in a Super 99 at a tractor pull in Dorchester, WI in about 1974. Looked like it had a solid bar inside the PTO tunnel, probably to help keep the hollow shaft intact. At least I think that?s what it was for.

It will not just bolt in you will have to do modifications to the frame. Dallas Roberts on the facebook Oliver page has done it.
