Scrappers Make Me Do Bad Things

So went to a salvage yard going out of business action Saturday and they had a boat load of plows. Sale bill said 250+, HA! More like 500ish, maybe more. Ide say only about half were little trip and hydraulic lift trailer plows, the rest were BIG 5,6,7, all the way up to 8 bottom semi mounts and trailer plows. If you name it, threre was probably at least one variation of every color of plow down there. The sad part is that off all them plows Ide venture to say that in total less that 25 went to collectors. There were two or three scrap dealers there that were buying them up left and right, and there were some rare pieces there to. An M&W earth eater scrap, a hand full of 6 and 7 bottom Ford plows scrap, 5 or six trailer type Oliver pipe plows all scrap, more 5 and 6 bottom semi mounted Oliver pipe plows than you could shake a stick at pretty much all to scrap, a complete 7 bottom Oliver 448 SAR which did luckily go to a collector, a 8 Bottom Oliver 446? trailer plow that was just missing the coulters went to scrap, a 5 bottom Moline hydraulic reset went to scrap, a 4 bottom Moline pipe plow, just so many plows that in front of the right people would have brought decent money but instead went for $450 or less. These were complete or mostly complete plows to. Anyway, I went down there just to spectate not knowing that all these cool plows were there there. Found this guy sitting at the end of the last line of equipment to be sold. Had to wait around 6 hours for them to get to it and had to bid up a scrapper to $525 but I wasnt going to let that S.O.B send this old girl to china. So now Im the owner of a 7 bottom 565 on land hitch. It is all there except for 3 of the coulters which I have here on another parts plow, the tie rod and lift arm going back to the rear wheel are bent, and one moldboard which I already have on the shelf. Other than that there isnt a dang thing wrong with it. Hopefully by this fall its in the field behind my 4-150. Sorry for the long list, I was just having a conniption fit yesterday wathing all these things go to waste, but I guess maybe Im just a little to sentimental about things like that.

Good job in saving that Oliver plow...Where was this sale at?We used to have a 6x16 on land hitch plow just like it that we pulled with our Oliver 1950... I went to a large sale yesterday in Kansas and lots was going to the scrappers..About 4 years ago I watched a pair of nice Oliver 4 bottom trail plows go for scrap...A one owner shedded Super 92 Massey combine also went for scrap at that sale..

Good find--it is too bad about the rest of the plows. The wife and I went to a sale in western Kan. in the Spring of 2014. They had a tree shelterbelt on the North side of this farm site and inside of it there must have been 100 TO 150 tractors of all makes. I was talking to other guys and we agreed--we couldn't save them all. Damn scrappers were getting most of them. The Dad died and the family was selling.. I had even talked to the Deere dealer in the closest town the day before and they said they still picked up their combines at Moline and their tractors at Waterloo and would work with me on freight for their truck was empty going East. Was still over 750 miles. Only brought one home a MM---Tee

Great job saving that one! Its a shame that all those other plows are going to scrap. That's going to look good behind the 4-150... I was at a auction this past wed. They had a white 4btm sar plow it went for $950 I think and also a Oliver 5btm sar that went for $1250 it was in nice shape. There was also a white 4-180 with duals all the way around, a 3point and 3 remotes. It was in decent shape I do not remember the hours. Sold for $13,800

How did the other stuff sell? I wanted to go but couldn't make it. Did the weights and rims and tires sell high?

Yea it was weird. Weights were going for probably half again more than what current market is on them. Couldn't tell you much on rims and tires as I was watching the plows while those were selling.
