Saw a non running, but not stuck Oliver Super 88 diesel sell at auction today, complete, dual hydraulics, each rear wheel had two weights, decent rubber, narrow front. Thought I MIGHT bring it home and repair the damaged injection pump, but I don't need another project that bad. It sold for 4200.00 , not sure where it went..

You were at Kamp Salvage today werent you? LOL I thought the same thing when I saw that tractor sell. She was straight but dang, Super 88 Diesels are, compared to the rest of the super series, a dime a dozen. We were figuring $2500 tops. Somebody wanted that old girl bad. The non running 1600 next to it was just as much of a shocker. No oil on the hydraulic dipstick, no oil on the 2 speed dip stick, valve spool on the two speed stuck solid, fresh-ish oil in the motor but 20+ year old filter, drawbar and support busted to heck, all four tires beyond shot, and lord knows what else, still brought $2300! I ended up buying a 7 bottom Oliver On land plow down there to keep the scrappers from cutting it up. There was a lot of big semi mounts and trailer types of all colors down there that still had a lot of life in them, including some pretty unique and hard to find ones, most headed to China now.

Yup, sale was about six miles from home. I did get the MF 40 diesel forklift, hope with the steer tires pumped up it will turn just enough to load it. As I left there were several empty pickups/trailers leaving. Seems some stuff cheap, and some went HIGH..

Wow is right!! Maybe I should go back and see if the old guy still has this one. He said it ran good when parked in the shed, new rear tires and fronts are good. Hasn't ran in 8 to 10 years. He wanted $3000 firm. I was interested but was worried about the injection pump being stuck, so I didn't buy it then. How do you do the screwdriver test to see if it's stuck?? Chris

I wouldn't even bother with the screwdriver test, but remove the pump AS IS, WHERE IS. DON'T EVEN SET THE TIMING!! That can be figured out later after pump is repaired. If the plunger is stuck, just turning the engine by had will break it, making the hydraulic head into a paperweight..

$4200 wow. What are my running ones worth then . Was it a bidding war?
I would take the front cover off, remove the drive bolts and turn the pump gently by hand at a minimum. Removing it is best as diesel tech said.

Wow is right, that makes me feel pretty good about my 88, Super 88s (two of them), and 880. They are all diesel, ran when I bought them and still run but some need work.
