3 or 4 Quarts?

Bought 4 quarts of oil today to change out the old. Along with the filter change I'd run it for about 10 minutes to warm her up. After draining the oil now, I PUT IN 3 quarts and it is showing full. Now I am on level concrete that just got poured a couple of years ago. Even though the filter is installed upside down, I thought the gas oliver 55 took 4 quarts? Does the dip stick check at the top of the neck or all the way to the bottom?

mine takes four and I put in a half quart more for the upside down filter because I have hills .

I think I'd put in four and a half quarts, run it until the filter is full, then if I had to, I'd remark the dipstick.

You need to start the engine first, let it run for a moment or two then shut it off and check the oil level.
