Replacement 66 starter

Anyone got a cheap fix for a 66 starter. Mine seems to be shorted everywhere. Pulled one off a 77. It is long and appears to have an offset in it. I think it is shorted too. I am not opposed to putting 12 volt on it. 770 starter looks the same externally.

Here's the one I took out of one of my 77s. I looked at about 5 of my Oliver's and this is the only one with this offset. I'm going to have a closer look later.

I thought it might be. Thought it was interesting that none of my others had it. I think it has the same Delco number bet it must have a different armature.
 
We had one on our 88 that had M&W sleeve kits. That reduction drive was an M&W add on kit to help the old 6V system crank over the increased compression. The is a new style Denso gear reduction starter that will fit your machine, but they are 12V. We sold several to pullers who had supped up engines. Any starter shop should be able to set you up.

Thank you. Now you have me wondering if anything else was done to the engine and if anything is salvageable. I think it's the next one in line but I have a diesel to put in it.
