Value of 1850 Diesel

Does the type of transmission affect the value of what a 1850 diesel goes for at auction? For example if the tractor only has the standard 6 speed, but is in relatively good shape otherwise, will this transmission lower the price and make the tractor less desirable?

That isn't a transmission type. The Hydra Power is a separate unit that bolts to the back of the engine and has nothing to do with the actual transmission. I wouldn't say it would effect the value of the tractor.

I would think one with a hydra power would be more desirable. It would be to me. On the other hand one without may be more desirable to someone else. At an auction it is always hard to tell which way it will go. Depends on who is bidding.

I would say yes to a certain point. Maybe only a difference of $500 or a little more. I would think not more a $1000 more or less. Probably the bigger difference is if it had a 2 or 3 speed. One of our 1800's didn't have a hydra power when we bought it, it does now!

How is your search going?

Wouldn't matter to me,I took the 2 speed out of my 1650 when it started giving me trouble sure shifts a lot better. Both my 1550 tractors have it I'd be fine with the straight 6 gears in them too.If they held back on the low side they'd be a lot more useful.

If the hydra power is not working correctly, can it be easily unbolted from the back of the engine and removed , and then revert back to the original 6 speed and run the tractor like that?

(quoted from post at 15:21:37 03/09/18) You'd need the other bell housing and driveshaft.

I suspect the bell housing and drive shaft are pretty common and easy to find.

Can the hydra power be removed without pulling the engine out?

You'd have to pull the engine. I would think more were made with Hydra Power. I'd check with Maibach or Smitty's for the parts to delete it.
