bushing or bearing?

I have an 1850 gas that has a noise in the engine. maybe like a small clunk? or baby knock...or heavy tick. Is there a sure way to tell what is causing it? I held a screwdriver against my ear and I think its louder towards the top of the engine block on the right side farthest rear cylinder. Kinda hard to tell...lots of clicks and clunks in there. I was thinking wrist pin bushing...orrrr..... I dunno.

Well...I guess if it's either the bushing or the bearing it won't go away without taking it apart. I'll check the valves, maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks for the reply.

I didn't even think of it! I can do that. It's going to be a while before I could tear into it anyway. Is there a certain amount of hours it should be run before a sample? I just changed the oil in it.
