torquing connecting rod caps head bolts

when one torques connecting rod caps or head bolts do you put some 5 weight oil on threads ? why is this done ? if not why do you leave them dry

The little bit of light oil on the threads lubricates just enough so you get a correct torque. If you have ever tried to thread a slightly rusted or dry nut onto a bold and noticed it "binds" a little then goes? That little bit of binding could cause a loose rod or a head gasket to fail. Hope this explanation is helpful.

in the auto or engine industry thread torque is taken as clean and oiled. its pretty much torque values for oiled threads. oiled threads require less torque than a dry thread. i would guess at 10 percent less.
