88 distributor not turning revisited

Hi guys. Just an update for you. Maybe it will help someone down the road. The camshaft and oil pump gears were stripped. I started taking things apart and water was dripping out of the oil pump. I figure it froze when it got so cold. The oil pump couldn?t turn when I tried to start it. Probably should put a elbow heater or something else on it. I change oil regularly. But ultimately condensation got me. The tractor never sits outside, but is in a dirt floor shed. Thank J. Schwiebert for calling me to get me squared away. We are so lucky to have someone so willing to help. Your legacy will always be remembered and appreciated.

Check the welsh plugs in the head for seepage. When I got my 1550 the oil looked a little bit creamy. While working on it I noticed one plug was wet so I pulled the valve cover and found the center one to be leaky. Took a while to find the brass plugs but I replaced all seven.

Definitely check. Oil pumps do not pick up from the bottom of the sump, so there would need to be quite a lot of water present, I would think. Unless water in the oil separated and it collected in the pumping elements...

I?d be looking for the source of the water. It would be highly unusual for an oil pump to freeze and burst.

I don't think that is the problem here since the coolant would be freeze protected. Those plug could be leaking also but coolant should come out first when you drain the oil. Interesting thread!

takes a lot to strip those gears and I doubt you were doing it... water is water condensation is vapor and vapor is a very small amount of water. Hardly enough to freeze and strip gears.

Things don't last forever
