Tank heater for a 1655 Oliver

Any of you folks have a picture of the instillation of a Katz circulation heater on the 1655 or 1650????

I was looking at the block drain at the lower right rear side of the block and return at the top radiator hose but the elbow connection sounds like less hoses to run.

Lenray, The engine is out of a 1650 and had a tank style heater. Hose went from the water pump to the rear of the engine. The other pic is the elbow style heater element that was on my 1555 and the other elbow is off a 1650 diesel and does not have the element just showing the plug you remove to install the element. The last pic is my 77 that had a tank heater hooked up to lower radiator hose drain petcock.

I just bought a Kats 1000w tank heater at TSC today (decent price and 90 day return) for my 1650. But the instructions really suck. I bought it because the f*$!&#$%! 1000w block heater like one in Greg's picture shows, keeps burning out (on my the 3rd one). Getting tired of replacing them at $60 a pop. Cannot figure out what is frying them -- they are fully immersed in coolant in the cast iron elbow.

You have to position the tank vertically which makes it harder to plumb properly. The vertical end is the upflow output end that feeds the heated water up by convection. If these buggers don't get circulated water (or an airlock) they burn up. I see where you can connect the tank heater input end to the elbow where block heater goes. Then there is also a block drain where you could connect the tank upflow to toward the back of the block (this would flow upwards to heat the water jackets in the head). But it is only about 6 inches above the point on the elbow, and the d@mn tank heater is a good ten inches long (and sits upright). So that won't work. Is there another block coolant opening that is higher towards the backend of the block up towards the head?

If I can't figure it out I'll be return this tank heater and I guess I'll just bend over and order another 3/4" block heater from YT. lol

Ok I see where Greg has it on his 77, maybe have to mount it down low like that. Only with my luck it will get torn off by something. :)

Brent, I never tried the tank heater on the 77. I'm sure it works but when I drained the old coolant out I removed the tank heater. Now after weeks of sub zero temps it warmed up just a little and tractor wouldn't start. My 1650 started and that's got the back blade so that's what I needed anyway. I think my 1650 could use a heater as well or sell them all and buy a Kubota! lol!! Greg Kubota doesn't sound right at all!
