Transmission and main case fill plug. Is that hole supposed to be there? Never saw it till I cleaned it up. Is it a breather or the wrong plug?

Our E3 used to leak some grease out the rear wheel seals. A friend had a E3 that after using it most of 1 day haying and then he was going to add trans fluid. When he removed the fill plug it blew out of his hand from internal pressure. He drilled a hole in the side of the plug and up from the bottom. That way water wouldn't enter the top. The internal build up of pressure is what must have been causing our wheel seals to leak. I remember seeing a number of E3 and 30s with oil leaks on the wheels.

I have two E3s and they both leak. I think it's a common problem with them and I doubt that much pressure would build. It would relieve through the shifter and boot.

All I know is what my friend said. Maybe it didn't blow it out of his hand but he said there was pressure . After venting it his wheel leaks stopped.
