Thermostarter

Hello, I have an Oliver 1465/white 1470. I checked online how the thermostart error is supposed to be working and think I understand the concept...

However, my thermostarter heats, if I remove the intake hose I see it glowing red, but there seems to be no fuel pipe coming into it to create the fire... Has it been modified?

Also, is it normal that the intake hose is in rubber? It seems to me that if the thermostarter would work, it would melt. The hose....

Thanks

Alexis, what you have there is just a "grid" or "coil" type intake air heater. That isn't a thermostart that uses fuel to blow fire in the manifold. All it does is try to help preheat the intake air to get it closer to combustion temperatures. That's why the intake hose is rubber, it is in no danger of melting with the coil heaters you have there.

Thanks, my owner manual says there should be a thermostart that ignite fuel... Does someone know if it was standard or an option? Maybe I could just buy a thermostart and hook it up. It seems to be a superior system than just resistance heater...

1465/1470 only has coil glow plugs, the thermostarter applies to the 1265/1365 etc. Here’s a pic of a 1255 with the thermostarter system. The little tank at the top of the pic holds the fuel from the injector return line that feeds the thermostarter plug. Also posting pics from the 1465/1470 parts book for reference. 1st 2 pics are from the 1255/65 and 1355/65 tractors. Last 2 pics apply to 1465/1470 tractors.
