oliver 770 engine rotation direction

when viewing engine rotation it is taken as looking at the flywheel, or the rear of engine. so it would be classed as counter clockwise.
the same is when talking left or right side of an engine. it is taken when viewed looking at flywheel from behind.
plus think of the hand crank engines,.. you are cranking them clockwise standing in front ,but they are still classed as counterclockwise rotation.

"That's as confusing as buying auger fliting"

NOT sure what might be confusing there, RH auger flighting is coiled/angled just like the threads on a standard RH thread bolt.

I called and ordered some for the grinder mixer. For some reason, when I told him the direction of rotation and the direction it was moving the material,it just seemed counter intuitive to me.

Certainlybforvauto. Engines and most tractors but have you ever watched any videos of old aero engines?

Oliver made one tractor with an engine that would run both ways. They withdrew it because it ran over the farmers!

That is why I said 99% which of course is not all of them. I do not know if they still make them but at one tire some of the older gulf carts use an engine that would run forward and backwards to get forward speeds and backward speeds. Also some of the old Detroit diesel would run backward and if one had one start and it was running backward you learned fast to shut it down and try again

Think about it they would fall into that 1% which with all the engine there are MADE WOULD STILL BE A LARGE NUMBER

that has been the standard probably since the auto's came out. left and right sides of engines , and rotations. are classed as sitting in the seat or standing behind.

Not all. When I worked for Dana we had marine engine kit catalogs and many engines had camshafts for both right and left hand rotations. Also many old Detroit diesels are left hand rotation engines for older buses and industrial rotations.
