I thought 80W-90 was for tractors without a power booster and the thinner oil for the ones with a
power booster. I put a hyd-transmission oil in mine about 8 years ago that I got from the Agco
dealer.I was told that was the correct oil. Seemed like a 10wt. The oil I drained out was like a
10wt. That was the factory oil.

I was told from the Agco dealer that because the additive that they used in the 10W-30 is not
available anymore to use a good hyd-trans oil.

That additive has been gone for over 40 years. We used 80-90 and a lot of our gear problems went away. The thin oil was for power booster equipped tractors especially in cold weather, but there was not much use in cold weather. The hydraulic fluid would work well also

Isn't his tractor a power booster tractor even though he doesn't plan to use it? Would it be ok to run it on 90w? From what I remember I think he lives up north where it may be ran in the cold.

looking in the trans and rear diff all I see is gears and bearings no hydraulics it would seem. any oil is better than no oil but my thoughts would be the 80/90 would do fine?
