so I got the 880 apart and find out the problem is in the shifting rail? it would shift through the pattern but not actually go into gear. looks like I need to drain the oil and see if I can see the problem.

when the bottom end of shifter wears and or rounds off,it will slip out of rail and not move the rail, does shift handle wobble around sorta loose?
If it does and has no detent pressure it has come out of rail, needs to be brazed or welded back up ,- even larger than normal helps as all parts are
worn on a 50yr old unit.

got lucky two bolts on shift rail the hi low one had come out didn't do any damage that I could see so will start to put together, hope to eliminate the power nbooster and run direct don't use it anyway

I know you said you don't use it, but is the Power Booster giving you trouble? It does make your tractor unique and I know they can be a PITA, but as an Old Oliver guy I can tell you we always take a second look when we see an 880 with the Power Booster. As time goes by there are going to be less and less of them still around.

no It would likely work with the lever hooked up again. but in Canada it is not of great value. it belongs to my brother and he wants to get rid of it. after snow season he will likely sell it. the rivets in the disc are loose so I would like to find a couple to replace it. by the way is 50 wt oil fine in the trans?
