1655 Transmission noise

Hello
Posted about this a couple days ago this tractor will make a grinding noise while backing down a hill, and you have to be using the engine for breaking. I removed oil and filter and didn't see anything out of the ordinary also pulled pinion cover and it wasn't loose I only moved it maybe a 1/8 turn. Only thing I have noticed is that I can only seem to get it to do it in high range, my next thing is to pull hydro unit to check Trans just wondering if anyone has any other ideas. Thanks again

Yes I am and it had decent pre load on it it felt like. I didn't know what they wanted for a pre load on that or what everyone has been tightening them to but it didn't have any end play if I put it in gear and rocked the tire. Thanks

When you take the hydraulic unit off pay close attention to see if the needle bearings have failed on the end of the bull pinions. Around here a hill might be 2-3 feet

I am going to take it apart this winter and see what it looks like. The hill that it has to be on would be about the same grade as loading it on a gooseneck trailer. Thanks
