Super 55 no left hand steering

Hi all! I recently picked up a super 55 that had been sitting for 10+ years. I got her running did a full tune up and all fluids and she was good to go except the steering started to skip as in when I was turning it would get hard the front wheels would turn a bit and straighten out and then I would regain steering but now I have no left hand steering at all but no problem steering right. Obviously I have a steering box problem but I haven't worn it apart to see what the problem specifically is. Could anyone tell me what I'm going to need to fix it?

I just an old retired guy that parts out Super 55's & 550's as a
hobby & rebuilds steering gear boxes---I'll be glad to help you out-

Usually the bottom bearing in the steering box has failed, allowing enough slop in the shaft to let some or all of the recirculating balls out of the steering nut. Take the box out, take it apart on a table or bench so you can corral the little balls when they come out, and order necessary parts from Kent. Usually if the tractor has been sitting out, the steering wheel will be rusted on to the shaft such that you will ruin it if you try to take it off, so I have just disconnected the gauges and taken the dashboard sheetmetal off with the steering assembly and steering wheel.

Sounds good I'll have to tear into it

I agree with coshoo, the bottom bearing has failed most likely from water intrusion. My super 55 acted the same as described in the OP from a failed bottom bearing. They are pretty easy to rebuild the hardest part is setting up the preload on the sector shafts to get smooth and slop free operation without binding, it just takes a bit of tinkering. Also be sure to engage the teeth so that the reference dots on the gears line up.

Some photos from my rebuild.

Is there someplace you can get a rebuild kit for the steering box? Even if I get in there and find teeth broken off of one of the sectors I'm thinking I might as well rebuild it
