More Oliver 70 Questions

I got the Oliver running. I had to jump it with a 12 volt battery to get it to turn over faster. The engine is just rebuilt and
it turns over very hard.

Carburetor - I'd like to send it off and have it rebuilt. Suggestions where to send it?

CharLynn Hydraulic PTO pump. We had one of these on this tractor to run the loader.

I have the mounting bracket but lack the pump drive that goes on the PTO shaft. I have an email to Char Lynn - Eaton but so far haven't heard back.

I could make one. Does anyone have information on how they were constructed or have one for which they could supply pictures and perhaps some measurements.

Thanks.

I've overhauled a couple of 70's recently. I guess no one is cutting cork for the rear seal and they send a rope seal like Ford and Mopar used in the 70's or so. That seal make them turn really hard and will loosen considerably on the first running. I do my own carbs so I can't suggest anyone.

If your ground cable from the battery is bolted to the the dash panel the ground is going though the panel. There are two bolts at the bottom of the dash that go into the front of the transmission case. If you take those out and scrape the metal that helped me with the cranking on one.

That CharLynn piece is the same diameter as the piece you have It would have four pins like that piece and there is a drive piece with eight holes to fit over those pins and provide some flex. Don't know what that drive piece is made of though. The front necks down some and is cut for a 540 PTO shaft. It seems like it used set screws to hold it in place.

Thanks for the tip regarding the bolts holding the dash to the frame. I cleaned up those contacts and it made a big difference. I had cleaned every connection in the ignition system but hadn't thought of those bolts. I finally got it to start on 6 volts.

Also thanks for the information on the Char Lynn hydraulic pump. I think I can fabricate something that will work. Luckily I have a metal lathe and milling machine to work with.

Glad I could help.

One further thought on the ground would be to get a longer ground cable and bolt it to one of those bolts.
