so on this tractor, seemed to be working fine. then just like that no forward or reverse. seems to shift good in all gears and only what one can see is also turning behind the clutch, up till it goes into the converter or whatever it is. any ideas?

Does it have a high/low lever on left side? Mine only works in one range. If so did you try moving it?

it has hi range and low range each with their own gear pattern and that all seems to work fine

The high/low I'm speaking of is called a power booster. It is mounted behind the bell housing and in front of the trans. Should have a lever on left side.

I dont know if it has a power booster? just ahead of what ever it mite be like a sprag clutch? which is behind the bell housing and not covered in there is what looks like a throughout brg, not hooked up to anything, this sprag clutch? has cooling fins on the perimeter of it. all this seems to rotate fine with clutch. then it goes into an aluminum body which I assume is the torque converter.

Did you try moving the throw out bearing. One position is high. The other is low. Mine only works in one position. I need to tear into it but I have few others in front of it.

I have a 880. They will shift
better on low or the left
lever back. If you can't get it into
a certain gear. You can try
taking off the trans. Shift
lever, had it in neutral, and
look of the shift rods
are.lined up. If not you can
try to line them up with a
screwdrivers. Engine not
running of course

Here's some pics from a 770 manual.

I would guess you're missing all your linkage and covers. I haven't worked on mine yet so I can't be much help. Hopefully J or someone that has been into these will be along soon.

thanks for the info. seems when I put in main clutch I took off all that linkage, as this tractor gets no field use and only used for bit of yard work. there must be a shaft or something inside that I cant see that may be broken as all this outer part rotates good? thanks again

(quoted from post at 15:58:30 11/27/17) That is the over center clutch for direct drive.
so that part seems to rotate with the clutch but nothing works from there on cant quite make out the nos on the pic you sent. it must be something broken somewhere. thanks again
