Replaced block on 88, machine shop cleaned and magnafluxed and assembled short block. finished assembly and started engine, at first got a couple of squirts at supply line for rocker arms, then nothing. blew air back thru oil line, didn.t help, put washer under spring on relief valve, got a couple of squirts, then nothing, oil gauge is showing good pressure at idle. Checked oil pump prior to assembly with electric drill, picked up oil immediately. On block previous to this one had to plumb external line from port on sid e of block to valve train thru cover. This block does not have that port in it. any suggestions?

Lot of questions here. Which set up do you have to supply oil to the rocker arms, the one where the oil line enters the rocker arm shaft at the center of the shaft or the one that has the short line near the rear of the block? No 88 had an external oil line to supply oil to the rocker arms. What brand of main bearings were installed and are they standard or undersize? Do you have casting numbers for both blocks? When you unhook the oil line at the rear head bolt and blow air through the bolt can you hear oil in the pan. You may need to drop the pan and see if oil comes out of the upper main bearing. Start there. Send me an e-mail if you want to.
