283 piston problems

I sold a set of pistons and sleeves that I bought back in 2002 that were for a 1750/1755 gas 283 engine. He went to put them in and said that they are different than what he took out, but the engine was apart on a pallet so I can't say what everything was either. From what he is saying is the compression height is different. His machine shop is telling him they are diesel pistons though, which I know they are not because they have the wrong bowl on them. The biggest thing I'm trying to figure out is another thing that the machine shop is telling him about the connecting rods, both a 283 and a 310 use the same rods, which I don't believe, but have never held a 283 rod in my hands either. The number on the rod is 221407, which my book says its a 310 rod. Are they a different length? If so that could explain it. Thanks for any help.

The rods are the same length and same part number-the pin location in the piston is changed for the difference in stroke.

The 283 diesels with Lanova heads use different rods if I remember correctly. I will need to look. Sure that those pistons are not for a 310 gas or he has a 310 crank for a 1755?

These are gas tractors and pistons. He did send me the crank number also and my book comes back as a 283 crank for an 1800 with 1 3/4 thrust. You wouldn't happen to know the compression height on both a 310 and 283 piston would you? I know its possibly that they were packaged wrong and could be 310 pistons, but they had the 283 part number on the boxes and only one box had been opened when I got them.
